" Your work is to discover your world and then with all your heart give yourself to it."
-Hindu Prince Gautama Siddharta, founder of Buddhism, 563-483 BC
I was commissioned by Time Warner AudioBooks to produce a work that would be specific to the African American community. I submitted treatments on several ideas and the one we settled upon was Kwanzaa Folktales. The African-American holiday of Kwanzaa illuminates the seven principles of -- faith, creativity, collective work and responsibility, purpose, unity, self-determination, and cooperative economics. I researched folktales from the African Diaspora and came up with seven stories from Africa, to the Caribbean, to the United States. The stories are written by Gordon Lewis, and read by actresses: Jonelle Allen, Angela Bassett, Daphne Maxwell Reed, and Raven Symone, actors: Roscoe Lee Browne, Chuck D., and David Alan Grier.
